Maci is here! We are so lucky to have such a wonderful little girl. Will and I are so in love and couldn't ask for anyone better to be apart of our family.
Our story: We didn't tell anyone that we were going in on 6/13 to do a "trial induction" because we weren't sure it would work and didn't want to have to explain if it didn't. We were told that Maci may be over 10lbs by her due date of 6/19 so we had the option of c-section because of the risk of her shoulders getting stuck and having other emergencies happen from that which could have been very serious. I really wanted to have a natural birth so I opted to try it out and see what happened, although I was keeping an open mind that I may end up with a c-section anyway. Our midwife was very supportive of this decision and that is when she asked if we wanted to come in on the 13th for the trial induction. I knew that with Pitocin there was a chance that I would end up with an Epidural which I wanted to be able to go without but wanted to go in because I knew that would be best for Maci if she was indeed as large as they were predicting. Long story short, we went in on 6/13 and got started on the Pitocin around 11am. At about 11pm I was on the highest dose of Pitocin and although I was having contractions I was not going into full labor. I asked to be taken off the Pitocin so I could eat and then we would start up again and they would break my water to speed the process. At about 3am after some rest, they started the Pitocin again. Around 3:30am the midwife Jodie who was on duty broke my water and told me it may be awhile before anything happened and to try and rest. I went to the bathroom, tried to lay down and at this point it was 3:45am and the real active labor was happening right away. 7am I decided to get an Epidural because the contractions were SO intense with no breaks. I hadn't been checked at this point but come to find out I was complete and could have started pushing, but since we started the Epidural process we continued and I was able to get a couple hours rest before pushing. Maci was literally right there ready to come out, but by that time I figured why waste the Epidural and took a nap = ) It took 2 hours to get the Epidural working completely because I wasn't reacting the the medication and they also had to put it in twice because I could feel where it was. "Pretty Eyes" who have the Epidural was very nice and really seemed to know what she was doing...good thing dealing with my spine and all. I started pushing with the direction from my awesome nurse Paul who was the best nurse EVER! He wasn't expecting things to happen so fast so he was going to the hall trying to figure out where the midwife, Vickie who was on duty at that time was. I pushed from 10:40am-11:15am and that is when she was born. 35 minutes and she was out, what a good team Maci and I were, and of course, Paul, the Midwife Vickie, my mom and Will were all champs as well. Will enjoyed every minute of the birth and I'm so glad that he did take full advantage of the moment. Overall I have an amazing family and couldn't be happier!
